NCCC team, Maple 4, arrived in Minot, N.D. on August 17 to continue to assisting the Lutheran Disaster Response in supporting individuals and families with long-term flood recovery efforts. Working diligently to help place residents back into their homes, Maple 4 mucked homes containing lost possessions, gutted insulation and building materials that suffered structural integrity as well as power washed and sanitized to discontinue the growth of mildew and mold.
Shortly after the Souris Valley Flood of 2011, the town of Minot, with a population approaching 44,000 residents, saw more than 12,000 residents evacuated at the time of the flooding. The river flooded a quarter of the city, devastating 4,815 homes, churches, schools, and businesses
. With assistance and accommodations from Hope Village, a unified volunteer center providing volunteer housing, rebuild and repair assignments, tools, meals and fellowship, Maple 4 is grateful for the opportunity to help Minot residents.
Relishing in the work her team is accomplishing, Maple 4 team member Hannah Moore, 23, really enjoying removing flood-damaged windows and doors, “At the end of the day you can see and feel the results and fruits of our labor, and when that labor is something such as helping people to get back into their homes, that’s a really meaningful thing.”
