Hometown: Denver, Colorado
Joe is currently serving as a member of Oak 1 with the AmeriCorps NCCC at the Vinton Campus. Joe has a strong work ethic and gets along with just about anyone. He also has a desire to learn new skills and experience different areas and jobs. Joe learned about NCCC from his stepmother who participates in many volunteer opportunities in the Denver area.
Joe graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 2007 and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in 2011 with his Bachelor’s degree in History and a minor in Philosophy. Joe was working in retail after college but wanted to do more with his time. After his term of service, Joe would like to either join the Peace Corps or continue with his education.
Joe and his team are currently serving in Henryville, Ind. with March 2 Recovery in response to the devastating tornado that hit Southern Indiana earlier this year. Prior to this project, Oak 1 was in Omaha, Neb. working with Habitat for Humanity as well as Youngstown, Ohio working with the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation. Other previous service projects included assisting the Vinton Parks and Recreation Department and Tanager Place in Cedar Rapids. The team started their service year working with the Shawnee National Forest in Ohio.
