Name: Cordelia Stewart
Hometown: Brownsville, Calif.
Cordelia is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Hickory 6 at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to gain “real world” experience before returning to graduate school and she felt that this program would provide her with that opportunity.
Cordelia graduated from Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts in 2008 and California State University at Chico in May 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in family relations. After her service term ends she plans to return to school and obtain a master’s degree in social work. Eventually she would like to pursue a career in child protective services.
A fun fact about Cordelia is that she decided to celebrate her twentieth birthday by going skydiving. At the time she found the thought of jumping out of an airplane absolutely terrifying. But she took the leap and says that this experience showed her what she’s capable of and proved that she can overcome her fears when necessary.
