Our Veterans are special people in our communities and our country.
Sixty-years ago our Korean Veterans went to war with not much recognition. Last year there was a parade in Des Moines to honor our Korean War Veterans. Secretary of Defense-Leon E. Panetta signed certificates of Appreciation to each Korean Veteran there. The certificates read: "IN RECOGNITION OF HONORABLE SERVICE DURING THE
KOREAN WAR IN DEFENSE OF DEMOCRACY AND FREEDOM. THROUGH YOUR SELFLESS SACRIFICE, THE TIDE OF COMMUNISM ON THE KOREAN PENINSULA WAS HALTED AND LIBERTY TRIUMPHED OVER TYRANNY. THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE AND THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA AND KOREA ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL."
I found out that we could receive certificates for all Korean Veterans so Veterans who want one can receive one. so I went to work and put our Urbana Korean War Veterans in for these certificates.
On Thursday, Jan 17, at The Urbana Legion Hall, we honored these Veterans with a potluck supper and presentations. The Urbana American Legion Auxiliary was honored to do this for our Veterans.
Korean veterans from Urbana who honored were: John C. Fulmer, CPL Merle Horak, Duane Kramer, PFC Anthony Michael, PFC Raymond Michael, CPL Frank Teffer, CPL Marion Vaupel, PFC William Wolfe, Seaman 3rd class-Richard Yerkes, and PFC Robert Zieser.
If you know a Korean War Veteran that would like one of these certificates please contact me Jeanette Henry at 319-929-8531 or email me at dejlhenry@mchsi.com and I will send their name in. It takes four to six weeks to receive it.
Thank a Veteran Daily. We appreciate all of you would you did for our country.
GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE ONE OF YOU!!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
