Name: Michelle DiPinto

Hometown: Burlington, Conn.

Michelle is serving as a member of the AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps team Hickory 2 at the Vinton Campus. She first learned about AmeriCorps while volunteering with Habitat for Humanity as part of an alternative spring break where she met AmeriCorps VISTA members. She chose to participate in NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to make a difference and gain direction for her life after AmeriCorps.

Michelle graduated from Lewis S. Mills High School and Saint Joseph College in May 2012 where she majored in biology and minored in chemistry and math. After her service term ends she plans to apply to a chemistry PhD program or get her teaching license. She ultimately hopes to teach science at the high school or college level someday.

In high school Michelle participated on an Outward Bound trip with the Capitol Region Interdistrict Leadership Academy. She says that she and the 19 other students learned valuable lessons about themselves and teamwork at they trekked up mountains and went rock climbing. This experience significantly shaped her life.
