Name: Austin Mickschl

Hometown: La Crescent, Minn.

Austin is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Pine 4 at the Vinton Campus. He chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because he wanted to try something different right after graduating from college and do his part to make a difference in the world.

Austin graduated from La Crescent High School in 2007 and the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse last May with a degree in secondary social studies education. After his service term ends he hopes to find a teaching job and plans to use his Segal Education Award to pursue a graduate degree down the road.

Before he graduated from college, Austin spent time in the classroom as a student teacher and had some great experiences interacting with youth. He says, “Working with young adults in a classroom setting is always unique, which is why I enjoy teaching so much.”
