Name: Meret Thali
Hometown: South Burlington, Vt.
Meret is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Spruce 2 at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to do something meaningful after finishing college and before heading to law school.
Meret graduated from South Burlington High School in 2008 and the University of Vermont in 2012 with a bachelor of arts degree. After her service term ends she plans to attend Drake University School of Law in Des Moines, Iowa to become a public defender.
An experience that has shaped the person Meret is today was moving from Switzerland to Vermont as a ten-year-old. She says, “Having moved from one continent to another has given me a unique understanding of what it means to understand and value other cultures and people.”
Meret and her team are currently serving on their final project in Denton, Texas after spending the last two rounds in New Jersey working on the Hurricane Sandy response with FEMA. They will return to Vinton in June for graduation.
