Vinton-Shellsburg High School students have chosen Daisy Johnson as Homecoming Queen and Kyle Jorgensen as King. The two were crowned Thursday during the pep rally at the football field. 2014 King Justin Shaw and Queen Ellie Lane returned to crown the new royalty.

Thursday's events also included the parade, which featured all of the candidates for King and Queen, as well as the high school and middle school marching bands.

TP October 9, 2015, 1:57 pm I\'d like to comment on the use of all electronic sirens in any parade. PLEASE DON\'T USE THEM!! Especially when you\'re behind a band as they were last evening. Those that use them should have to stand in front of their emergency vehicles for 5 minutes without hearing protection while the electronic sirens are in use. The old time, before electronic, sirens are okay though. I appreciate our firemen and all emergency responders, but I would appreciate them more if Vinton had a no electronic siren use rule (not law) except for emergencies. Many other towns have parades without electronic sirens, why not Vinton?
