The Vinton-Shellsburg High School Voyagers brought dance lovers together on Saturday, inviting younger dancers, alumni Voyager members and even a few high school guys to join them in performing.
The theme of Saturday's show was "Shut Up and Dance." Coach Melanie Davis introduced each member and each dance number.
The Voyagers wore a variety of costumes and performed for the audience the routines they learned for their contests this year. The 11 girls created and performed routines with themes that included Christmas and "Star Wars." They did their hip-hop, jazz and state kick routines.
Two solo performances earned standing ovations. Senior Amanda Burkey, who will begin basic training with the U.S. Navy this summer, donned the familiar white Navy cap as she danced to "American Soldier."
Senior Daisy Johnson's tributed to her late father, Steve, moved many to tears, as she moved to the song "Wish You Were Here."
Many alumni Voyagers from previous years and decades joined the senior members in the alumni dance, with a "Shake" theme.
The traditional guy-girl dance was the finale, as participants dressed up as players, refs or cheerleaders.
