Name: Juan Garcia

Hometown: Bealeton, VA

NCCC Team: Oak 5

Juan graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 2006.  He then attended Northern Virginia Community College and is currently working on his degree in International Marketing. Juan found about NCCC through City Year’s website. Juan is bilingual and is a great mediator for high stress situations.  When asked why he chose to do a term of national service, Juan answered, “I have always enjoyed helping people, I never hesitate to put other needs before my own. I have always been drawn to this line of work. I know its going to be tough, and not what I am use to, but I am up for the challenge, especially if it means making a difference”.  After finishing this year with NCCC, Juan plans on going back to school, coaching soccer, and working with kids.  He would also like to get a job with a non-profit either in the field or working in marketing or developing.

Juan and Oak 5 are currently serving with Sugar Creek in Ferryville, Wisconsin starting March 28, 2011. Oak 5 is removing honeysuckle and bucking tree tops after a logging project to allow for more native plants to grow and to allow for a healthier ecosystem in the area. The team also has an opportunity to work with other non-profit and faith based organizations in the Ferryville area.
