Review of 'Massacre Creek' by Wayne C. Lee

Happy New Year and saddle up for a brand new adventure! Lane Perry and his younger brother Chris have been through the war, then travel West to search for gold. Without the handsome fortune the men have been counting on, they head back to their Missouri home, working as hunters for a small wagon train leaving Denver.

While hunting for antelope one day, Lane hears shots coming from the wagon train and rushes back to find everyone on the train massacred, even Chris. This is just the beginning of trouble for Logan, as he gradually uncovers treachery and back-stabbing. The plot thickens when Lane goes to the fort for help, only to find people in need of his services! Henry Gordon, who owns a nearby ranch and a gold mine, is waiting for an expected shipment that was on the wagon train. Upon hearing that the wagons were smashed and torn to pieces, he demands to see the wreckage. Of course, he has two daughters; a plain young lady who helps him in his business, and a younger girl who is a vibrant, red-headed flirt. All three are adamant that they will help look for the missing shipment.

It's really difficult sometimes to keep the players straight, since they seem to change sides and loyalties at will! Also, there are four leather bags full of gold dust that move around like the pea in a shell game! I love this old story no matter how many authors tell it! I think you'll enjoy it, too. We have it in large print at the Vinton Public Library - it was brand new just a couple of weeks ago; you could be one of the first to read it! Start the year out with a bang! Relax and Read!

Love,

Connie
