I'm currently reading 'Chocolat,' the 1998 novel by Joanne Harris about Vianne Rocher, a woman who moves into a rural French community with her young daughter and opens a chocolate shop during Lent. It inspired the 2000 film starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp, which was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture.

I'm enjoying the book so far; it digs deeper into Vianne's backstory and includes elements of magical realism that were not as evident in the film. I recommend listening to Rachel Portman's original film score while reading; it provides the perfect atmosphere for the writing.

'Chocolat' currently has 3.96/5 stars on goodreads.com, and is the first in a series of four books with a companion title 'Vianne' released in 2025.

Happy reading,

Kelly
