New to our library's collection is 'Life: A Love Story,' the latest by beloved women's fiction author Elizabeth Berg. Like Virginia Evan's breakout hit 'The Correspondent,' this novel is also told primarily through letter-writing.
In the story, Flo is a widow in her early 90's, living alone in her home. Having no children of her own, she plans to leave her house and all of its contents to Ruthie, a woman who spent her childhood living next door to Flo. Their relationship was similar to an adopted granddaughter and grandmother, and they great very close, very quickly. The story is shaped through a letter that Flo writes to Ruthie providing the backstory to many of the seemingly insignificant items in the home, demonstrating how deep of a meaning they truly hold for Flo. A rubber band, a toothpick holder, a salt shaker, and more provide the bones for a soft, lovely, and moving story of a life well lived.
'Life: A Love Story' by Elizabeth Berg is available at the Vinton Public Library in regular type, and we have a large type copy on order. The book currently has 4.27/5 on goodreads.com.
Happy reading,
