Team: Cedar 1
Hometown: Fort Wayne, IN
Amanda Amstutz joined NCCC because she wanted to take time to reflect on her options for schooling, contemplate her future career path, and decide how she would apply service throughout her life. Amanda says she has learned how well she works with various individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, economic, educational, and geographic backgrounds. “I gained a healthier lifestyle and met great people who share my same passions” Amanda says.
Amanda has served on five different projects: YMCA Storer Camps in Jackson, MI; Aspire Therapeutic Horse Riding Center in Waterloo, IA; Summer of Service in Flint, MI; American Red Cross Shelter Operations in New Jersey; and Black Hills Workshop in South Dakota. Currently Amanda is in South Dakota serving at a developmental center for adults with disabilities. “I absolutely love interacting with everyone in the Suzie Cappa Art Center. The opportunities here are amazing” states Amanda.
Amanda says her first project with YMCA Storer Camps was her favorite project, however she thinks the Black Hills Workshop may end up being her favorite.
After NCCC Amanda plans on keeping busy at home, staying involved in volunteer activities, and working a lot. Amanda has recently applied to Warren Wilson College for fall 2012 and will be earning her Certificate in Nonprofit Management.
