Kelsey Grant, from Dover, Delaware, is the Team Leader for Maple 6 in NCCC’s Class 19. She arrived in Vinton on January 8, 2013, to start her 11-month service term leading a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Maple 6 is made up of nine people from across the country, and they will serve together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region.

For Kelsey, NCCC was a chance to do something different. She joined to gain experience in different areas. She also wanted to travel, and get the chance to see people and places she would not have seen otherwise.

Kelsey brings several skills with her to the Team Leader position. “I’m able to work and empathize with all people,” she says. Due to the diverse nature of the program, that will be useful in dealing with any issues that arise on her team. Kelsey is also hardworking and dependable. She adapts easily to new people and places, which is helpful as she is adjusting to different projects.

Prior to joining NCCC, Kelsey was finishing college. She completed her bachelor’s degree in social work at Salisbury University in 2012. She also graduated from Dover High School in 2008.

Maple 6’s first project runs from March 11 to April 25 with Voyageur Outward Bound in Eli, Minnesota. The team is assisting with the construction of a new winter cabin and the renovation of a second cabin. Voyageur Outward Bound has approximately 40 buildings, but currently only 8-10 are available for winter use. Voyageur Outward Bound is trying to add to the number available for winter use.
