Chad Every, from Maumee, Ohio, is the Team Leader for Cedar 7 in NCCC’s Class 19. He arrived in Vinton on January 8, 2013, to start his 11-month service term leading a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Cedar 7 is made up of 11 people from across the country, and they will serve together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region.
“I chose to do a year of service because of the once-in-a-lifetime experience that NCCC provides,” Chad said. “I love meeting people that we help, work with, and in local communities. It's just amazing to see the different ways that people live, and really being a part of their lives.”
Chad has several skills that he brings with him to be Team Leader position. He has the ability to make friends quickly and easily. He is very comfortable meeting new people, and has a good ability to understand people. This will come in handy when handling issues on the team, as well as communicating a project’s sponsoring organization and community.
Prior to joining NCCC, Chad was a Corps Member in NCCC’s Southern Region, located in Vicksburg, Miss. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in communication. He also graduated from Maumee High School in 2007. After finishing the program, he hopes to get a job with Verizon Wireless in Nashville.
Oak 1’s second project runs from April 1 to 29 with Custer State Park in Custer, S.D.
The Black Hills are in an epidemic stage of the mountain pine beetle infestation. Cedar 7 is assisting in stopping the spread of mountain pine beetles by brush piling downed trees and tree girdling, which are both proven techniques.
