David Chupp, from Connersville, Ind., is a member of Cedar 3 in NCCC’s Class 19. He arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start his 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Cedar 3 is made up of eight people from across the country, and they will serve together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region.

David had been looking for a community service program when he came across NCCC. He chose to serve this 2013 term because it allowed him to do service while ending at a time that will allow him to get on track with his MCAT related classes. “When I return in December, I will begin taking classes to prep me for that test,” he says.

David brings a lot of skills with him to NCCC, which help to carry out his role as a Corps Member. He has empathy, compassion, and creative thinking skills, which help him function and connect with his team.

Prior to NCCC, David was in his junior year of college at Indiana University East, studying human life sciences. He also graduated from Lakeland High School in 2009. After completing his term, David plans on finishing his bachelor’s degree and going onto medical school so that he can continue to serve his community.

Cedar 3 starts on new project on Monday, June 3 with Delaware County Historical Society, in Hopkinton, Iowa. The team is assisting the historical society with making improvements on the historical Lenox College campus and the museum that now resides there. This will be done through roofing, painting, deep cleaning buildings, interpretive activities, research, and moving and repairing displays.
