Name: Emily Roldan
Hometown: Saint Francisville, La.
Emily is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Spruce 6 at the Vinton Campus. She chose to participate in AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to take a year to travel, grow in independence and help people before attending college for her undergraduate degree.
Emily graduated from West Feliciana High School in 2012 and interned at the district attorney’s office before joining NCCC FEMA Corps. After her service term ends she plans to attend Southeastern University and possibly major in mass communication.
Emily brings some unique leadership and service experiences to her team. During high school she was a diocesan youth leader for the Episcopal Youth Council of Louisiana for four years and a team leader for mock trial for three years. She has also traveled extensively on mission trips with her church and volunteered in soup kitchens and food pantries.
Emily and her team are wrapping up their final project in Washington at FEMA headquarters after spending the last two rounds in New Jersey working on the Hurricane Sandy response. They return to Vinton in June for graduation.
