Kimberly Walker of Lawrenceville, Ga., is serving as a member of the NCCC FEMA Corps team Pine 6 at the Vinton Campus. She learned about AmeriCorps NCCC from her college mentor who was an alumnus of the program and she chose to participate in NCCC FEMA Corps because she wanted to help others and challenge herself by venturing outside of her comfort zone.

Kimberly graduated from Collins Hill High School in 2006 and Kennesaw State University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. After graduation she volunteered with Gwinnett County Police Department in the Volunteer in Police Service program before joining NCCC FEMA Corps. After her service term ends she hopes to jump into a career.

Service is an important part of Kimberly’s life and something she has been involved with throughout her life. She says, “The most powerful volunteer activity I was involved with was a local habitat for humanity build. I learned how amazing it was to make a difference in someone else's life and in turn it gave me more motivation to help again.”

Kimberly and her team wrapped up their final project in Chicago after spending the last two rounds in New Jersey working on the Hurricane Sandy response with FEMA. They returned to Vinton in June and graduate from the program on June 13.
