Cedar 2 arrived in Rapid City, South Dakota on May 3 for a stay of two months. They are functioning as an extension of staff at Black Hills Works (BHW), a multifaceted facility for individuals with disabilities.

Team members are spread throughout the building at Black Hills Works, assisting with different projects. Some of the people served put medical kits together for the local hospital, create multi- medium artwork, exercise, and prepare meals for distribution. Cedar 2’s job is to ensure each individual is successful in their activity and maintains a smile throughout the day.

After two weeks in Rapid City, Cedar 2 traveled to Spearfish, South Dakota, where they played an active part in the state meet of the Special Olympics. The hectic atmosphere circulated among the field, but the team provided an abundance of support and celebrated victories with athletes in every event.

The team actively seeks additional volunteer opportunities in the community as an outlet for growth and development. They have worked with Rapid City Habitat for Humanity, Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, and North Rapid City Community Schools. In June, Rapid City puts on Summer Nights, a free event held every Thursday night for all ages. During this event, the newly-opened Suzie Cappa Art Gallery operated by BHW will be displaying artwork and hold various activities, which Cedar 2 will assist in running.
