Today's featured artist is Gloria Lundvall Orcutt. Gloria is one of many artists who will participate in the June 21 Arts Festival being organized by the new Vinton Guild of Fine Arts.

Nathan Horst of Blairstown, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the College of Arts and Sciences during Creighton University's commencement ceremony on May 17, 2014, at the CenturyLink Center Omaha.

The following student(s) received recognition for outstanding achievement at Mount Mercy University during Honors Convocation this spring: From Atkins: Sydney Wallenfelsz, The Dale Harrison Management Outstanding Student Award Urbana: Lisa Coleen Wita, The Accelerated Student of the Year Award and Vinton: Brady Thomas Gerber, "Honor Cords - Graduating ""With Distinction"" in the Honors Program" AND Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges Over 100 students were recognized during the ceremony for excelling in academics and extra-curricular activities while demonstrating leadership and personal growth during their time at Mount Mercy.

One hundred fifty-one students have been named to the Spring 2014 (January to May) Dean's List at Ellsworth Community College. To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must have taken 12 or more credit hours during the semester (a full-time class load) and have earned at least a 3.

By: Sarah Williams Lindsay Jackson, from Oakley, California is serving on team Oak 7 in AmeriCorps NCCC Class 20. She arrived in Vinton on February 11 to start her 10-month service term.

By Jesse Crouch, Maple 4 Maple 4 arrived to a sunny, fair weathered Flint, MI on Thursday May 8th to serve with the Flint Housing Commission.  Committed to providing residents with decent, affordable housing to help them reach their full potential, the Flint Housing Commission (FHC) manages 1248 public housing units and 963 section 8 subsidy vouchers.

Brenda Kersevich was born and raised in Iowa. She attended college, majoring in Art. Brenda has participated in many art shows throughout her career, most recently at Boomtown in 2013.

North Eden Willing Workers, Bruce Boosters and Harrison Willing Workers all met at Hickory Hills Park in Dysart on May 4th. Each club had their own short meeting.

As the first-ever Art Festival at Celebration Park approaches, Vinton Today will be introducing our readers to the artists whose work will be on display in the park on June 21.

Two seniors-to-be will represent ECI REC in Washington, D.C., June 14 to June 20. They will join approximately 1,500 other youth who are also sponsored by their RECs to visit historical sites, explore the Smithsonian Museum, meet congressional leaders, spend a day on Capitol Hill, cruise down the Potomac River, and learn about American history and government.
