Center Point Friends of the Library drew the most perfect day of June for the Garden Walk the 23rd. Host gardens ranged from the jewel box garden of Library neighbor Roberta Heitman to the gigantic conifer-featuring plantings of Craig and Karen Batcheler, who run Interstate Grain Service south of town. Also hosting were Dennis and Linda Schlicht, conifer planters and growers of a vegetable garden prettier than most flower gardens, and Harold and Joanie Chapman, whose “secret garden” in Oliphant addition had garden walkers in awe. The new landscaping around the Library was part of the tour too. The low-maintenance plantings, which include buckthorn and sweetspire, are being done with a gift from long-time Library Board member Marilyn Andersen. The expanded Andersen Center Point Library has been renamed for Marilyn and her late husband Dr. Kenneth Andersen, who were major donors to the building campaign.
