Today’s spotlight is Mike Langen who hails from Rochester, NY. Leading Oak 3 this year, Team Leader Mike graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a Masters of Art in English in 2009 as well as from the University of Rochester in beginning of 2011 with a Master of Science in Inclusive Childhood Education. Mike brings with him experience in working with peers in college and graduate school and working with children as an elementary school teacher and camp counselor. Mike joined AmeriCorps NCCC because it is an opportunity to live in a variety of communities and make a hands-on, positive impact in each of them.
Q: What were you doing before NCCC?
A: Getting my masters in Inclusive Childhood Education from University of Rochester.
Q: What was your first job?
A: I was working as a camp counselor in Pittsburg, NY.
Q: Who is your favorite actor?
A: Edward Norton
Q: What will be your first words of advice for your team members?
A: “Let’s Get Things Done!”
Q: One place in the world you really, really wish you could visit?
A: Japan - There are really beautiful places there and I want to see the Zen temples
Q: Favorite candy bar?
A: Butterfinger
Q: Are there any sayings your parents repeated over and over that you can still remember clearly?
A: “Why aren’t you more like your brother?” I’m just kidding. I can’t remember any.
