Name: Christina Banach
Hometown: Merrimack, NH
NCCC Team: Maple 4
Christina graduated from Coe-Brown Northwood Academy in 2008 and is currently a student at Emmanuel College. She considers herself to be able to relate well to people and also has a great work ethic. After graduating high school, she attended school at Emmanuel College as a history major and also worked part time at Victoria's Secret. Christina found about NCCC through a friend who participated in City Year after they graduated from high school together. When asked why she chose to do a term of national service, Christina said, “I choose to do a year of service because I wanted to do something worth while and help out people in need. I also wanted to take time to learn about myself”. After finishing this year with NCCC, Christina plans to go back to school, and at the moment she wants to study to become a history teacher.
Christina and Maple 4 are living on the Gorman Heritage farm in Evandale, Ohio and getting to experience the lifestyle that comes with it. The team’s main project on the farm is working with the trails that run through the farm. The primary responsibilities are to clear the flagged trail corridor, bench cutting, construction of turns, and final tread surface preparation. The current trails are no longer smooth, with soil erosion and it creates a difficult hike for visitors. The team is also working on various other projects around the farm such as completing gardening chores in the hoop house, painting the men’s bathroom in a tractor theme, building storage shelves in the educational shed, and organizing various offices throughout the property.
