AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) Oak 3 is helping camp staff at Camp Ohiyesa for the next six weeks, March 17 - April 29, through YMCA Metro Detroit program.  NCCC members are assisting Ohiyesa camp staff with completing such tasks as maintenance, grounds keeping and assisting with outdoor education. They have already cleared and fenced in a six acre horse pasture, cleared 10 cubic yards of duck weed, completed multiple general maintenance tasks and assisted with outdoor education programming for a group of fifth graders from Detroit. Future projects include replacing broken down canoe docks and fishing docks at the water front; water proofing water slide steps and poles and refurbishing the climbing tower. In addition, the NCCC team is building picnic tables, repairing campfire seating area, trenching construction for communications wires and assisting the outdoor education program.

The members of Oak 3 have also helped out at a local food co-op and are forging strong bonds with the people of Holly and the surrounding communities.  Oak 3 is excited to continue their hard work in Holly Michigan as well as on future projects.
