Name: David Albrecht
Hometown: Indianola, IA
NCCC Team: Oak 2
David graduated from Simpson College after finishing his Bachelor’s degree in History. He considers himself to have gained a lot of experience from his job with patience as well as understanding, while his education has helped him to think critically and be a member of a team. Before NCCC started, David was working at a gutter supplies warehouse. He found out about NCCC by searching online for a volunteer opportunity that allows him to devote himself wholeheartedly to direct service. When asked why he chose to do a term of national service, David said, “I feel a duty to my common person, and I am lucky enough to be at a point in my life that I am able to give back. After finishing this year with NCCC, David plans on attending law school.
David and Oak 2 are conducting prescribed burns with the Souris River Basin Complex managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, while burning is the biggest task the team is tackling, they are also putting up fencing, performing chainsaw work and presenting to science classes in the local community about fire. In addition to these tasks, when the weather is not conducive to burning the team is assisting in restoration from tornado damage that occurred in the community of Kenmare.
