Thank You, Volunteers!
First and foremost, thank you so much to our amazing volunteers who helped
Library Staff and Public Works move the physical books and bookshelves, making
room for the painter and carpenter. Shoutout to our National Honor Society students
at Union High School, who dedicated their classroom time to help us move the youth
department. I offer a special thank you to their teachers, who allowed their students
time to volunteer.
Library Staff will need your help one more time in mid-November to move the
shelves back to their original locations. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram
for an announcement about dates and times to help us.
In late November through January, we will need many hands to help us reorganize,
rebarcode, reshelve, and sticker the physical materials. This is a perfect volunteer
opportunity for anyone who prefers sitting and chatting with friends and neighbors.
We have over 50,000 stickers to add to materials, marking their genres for better
browsability, and updating the identifiers to match our new system. Please follow us
on Facebook and Instagram for an announcement about dates and times to help us.
Available Core Services
As Library Staff shift into the fifth week of the renovation, our core services are still
available. Though the building is physically closed, you can still access materials and
attend a handful of programs hosted at the FFA Historical & Ag Museum.
During this shutdown period, you can request books using the online catalog, via
email, or by leaving us a voicemail. We check the Library’s phone at least once,
Monday through Friday, and we reply to material requests within 48 hours. Materials
can be collected in the FFA Historical & Ag Museum on Thursdays and Fridays from
10am-5pm, or by appointment for a specific pickup day and time.
Library Staff hope to move back into the Library by Thanksgiving. Once we are
back in the Library, you’ll be able to collect materials during our regular hours of
operation, Monday through Saturday. Simply call us when you arrive, and we’ll bring
your materials to your vehicle. Stay tuned to social media for updates.
Digital Library
If you haven’t signed up for OverDrive/Libby yet, you have access to over 100,000
titles through the State Library of Iowa’s consortium of digital materials called
Bridges. While we have experienced several disruptions to this service, we are
working with our vendors to ensure the system is running smoothly.
If you do experience any connectivity issues to the digital library, please contact
Library Staff. We do not always know when the system goes down, and we appreciate
when you inform us when something is not working.
Wreath Sale
It’s that time of year again! The holiday season is just around the corner, and the
Library is running our 12th Annual Wreath Sale. This year, we have two options for
wreaths. Plain wreaths, priced at $25, offer a classic, natural look or the chance for you
to get crafty and create your own decorations. Pre-decorated wreaths, priced at $30,
come with a ribbon, pine cones, and small bunches of berries.
Wreaths, including the decorations, are provided by Meyers Nursery in Waterloo.
For more information and to purchase a wreath, please contact Library Staff via email,
by leaving us a voicemail, or by dropping into the FFA Historical Museum on
Thursdays or Friday from 10am-5pm.
Wreaths must be prepaid, and orders must be received by November 12. You can
collect wreaths at the Library from November 24-26. All proceeds will go directly
toward the Renovation Project. Thank you for supporting the Library!
