By: Holly and Megan, Oak 3   A team of ten AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) members has been in Marquette, Michigan since September 6 and will complete their six week project on November 8. They are currently assisting Habitat for Humanity in building and finishing four houses during this period.                 NCCC members are assisting in all stages of the building process. Some of their tasks include painting, roofing, installing cabinets and other fixtures as well as putting up siding. The team is also helping at the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store. By completing these projects the NCCC team is helping provide housing to Marquette residents and improve neighborhoods. In addition to working with Habitat for Humanity, the team has also worked with St. Vincent De Paul and are planning on volunteering at the Moose Wood Nature Center Haunted Bog Walk                 Marquette County Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual, church and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - sweat equity - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses. Located in Marquette, Michigan, Marquette County Habitat for Humanity has built or rehabbed 80 homes in Marquette County since 1992.
