Last evening AmeriCorps NCCC took over the Vinton Country Club and Palace Theater for their Class 17 Awards Banquet. The evening started at 6:00 p.m. with dinner at the Vinton Country Club. After enjoying a great meal, nineteen NCCC teams climbed into their 15 passenger vans for a quick trip to the Palace Theater. The venue change was for NCCC staff to hand out end of year awards and entertainment provided by some of the members. The evening was presided over by Corps Members, David Albrecht and Kevin Johnson, with remarks given by Region Director, Dan Milnes. There were nine acts performed in between awards being handed out. The acts were performed by members and each act reflected on the past 10 months of service. The award categories were Team Motivator, Physical Training, Unit, Corps Choice and All Corps Awards.
The tops awards for the night were handed out by Dan Milnes, Region Director, Rob Levis Deputy Region Director for Operations and Jody Burns, Deputy Region Director for Programming. The All Corps Awards went to Ryan Flynn of Oak 4 who won for “Outstanding Personal Achievement”, David Condlin of Cedar 3 for “Above and Beyond for Outstanding Leadership” and Calin Sterling of Oak 4 for “Community Service”.
A great time was had by the NCCC teams and they would like to give a special shout out to Marcy and Gerald Horst of the Palace Theater. The members have their graduation ceremony on Thursday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Vinton-Shellsburg High School and are scheduled to leave on Friday, November 18, 2011.
