Maple 7 is working with the Baldwin Center to help revitalize their Clothes Closet. The team is spending three weeks scraping and sanding the two-story farmhouse before they finally began priming. Maple 7 has the majority of the upper level of the house complete, leaving the bottom half to focus on before they leave on June 27.
In addition to painting and scraping, Maple 7 has spent three hours of their afternoons on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday working with the afterschool youth program. The NCCC members spend their time working with kids in grades K-8, facilitating different activities such as reading time, homework time, nutrition activities and outdoor sports.
Aside from their work at the Baldwin Center, Maple 7 has spent a lot of time doing ISPs (service hours outside of their project service hours) on their time off. They spent three weeks on Tuesday and Thursday helping out at a therapeutic horseback riding place called O.A.T.S. (Offering Alternative Therapy with Smiles). They also volunteered at two different marathons and a food bank in Detroit, Mich. called Gleaners. Overall the team has completed around 50 ISP hours this project.
The Baldwin Center is really thankful for all the work Maple 7 did on their Clothes Closet. Maple 7 hopes that by totally repainting their facility it will bring new life to the Baldwin Center and also the surrounding community.
