NCCC team Maple 2 worked in Hamilton, Ohio with Supports to Encourage Low Income Families (SELF) from July 17 until August 11. Supports to Encourage Low Income Families is a designated community action organization, whose mission is to enhance the livelihoods by impacting the causes of poverty while working to empower the individual to reach self-sufficiency.

After a couple of weeks of painting and cleaning up after mission trip volunteers, members of Maple 2 were giving the opportunity to test its leadership skills, with individual corps members being allowed to direct projects on the worksite. These projects include building handrails, painting interior rooms and the exterior of homes as well as repairing and taping drywall.

On July 23 Maple 2 being was split into two teams, and the Team Leader being removed from any direct action on the worksite. For example, a split team constructed an entire handrail from scratch. Maple 2 is determined to develop their abilities and hopefully vet some future team leaders from this experience.
