Blairstown Sauerkraut Days Cancels for 2020
In a statement released to the public, it was announced that the Blairstown Sauerkraut Days will be cancelled for this year.The statement released in part says, "In considering the health and safety of our celebration attendees, workers, and the impossibility to maintain social distancing in the light of Covid-19, we decided in everyone's best interests to cancel Sauerkraut Days this year.
Shellsburg American Legion Breakfast held on Saturday

Cost is Free Will Donation.The breakfast will be served to keep handling items to a minimum. We will try this as long as the state allows dining of 10 or more in restaurants. We appreciate the past support for all the community does for the American Legion.
Holsten to be honored at retirement walk through reception TODAY, June 23
In an invitation created to look like the check out cards that used to be located in the front of the library books for borrowing, an announcement was made for the retirement party of Virginia Holsten. Vinton's librarian for the past 35 years, Virginia will close the book on her career as one of the most relaxed librarians Vinton has seen.EXCITING NEWS: The Library will be opening June 15th! Please use the North Door at this time.
Farmers Market to kick off in New Location
The local Farmers Market will begin on July 2nd and run weekly through September 24th at Celebration Park. Every Thursday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. people can come and buy produce from area growers. Also available will be food trucks and Merchant Grilling will be on site. The market will be held, rain or shine. Nothing to Compare at the Iowa State Fair this year
The Iowa State Fair Board, the governing body who oversees the Iowa State Fair, today voted to postpone the 2020 Iowa State Fair until August 12-22, 2021, amid ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns. The decision was made to protect the health and safety of all Fairgoers.After a thorough review of possible options, while carefully reviewing current health guidelines and examining operating limitations, it became clear that holding the 2020 Iowa State Fair, which attracts approximately one million people over 11 days, would not be responsible.
Vinton Lions Roar Again!
The Vinton Lions Club, one of the largest in Iowa, resumes its regular Wednesday noon meeting schedule next Wednesday, June 17, at Pizza Ranch. For the protection of members and guests the meeting room will be sanitized and [st] up for safe distancing, and attendees are encouraged to practice handwashing before eating. For now Vinton Lions’ familiar food trailer won’t be serving up great tenderloins and funnel cakes at local events.
Shellsburg American Legion Breakfast a Success
The Shellsburg American Legion is BACK serving Saturday morning breakfast. The hours are the same, 8 - 10 am. We ask people to social distance at the tables (families, of course, can sit together) and wear masks if you choose. The breakfast will be served to keep handling items to a minimum. The legion will continue the breakfast as the state allows dining of 10 or more in restaurants.
