On April 26 and 27 you are welcome to stop at any of the following Benton County Libraries!Benton County Libraries and Benton County Volunteer Center have teamed up to celebrate volunteers. On Friday, April 26, no matter who you volunteer for, stop by one of the host libraries for a cup of coffee (or water) and a cookie.

Wesley United Methodist Church Food Pantry this Saturday, 9-10:30

The Wesley United Methodist Church Food Pantry will be held this week, on Saturday, April 20th from 9-10:30 a.m. The church is located at 516 2nd Ave. in Vinton, right next to the library!Bring your bags and boxes to carry home all of the goodies!If you are interested in finding out more about our pantry let us know! It takes many people to make this mission work.

Memorial Day Service - Bear Creek Church

Bear Creek Cemetery will hold its Annual Memorial Day Service at 9:00 a.m. on Memorial Day. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 am-10:30 am at the church for a free will donation. The church and cemetery are located at 5177 26th Ave., Brandon, on V71, or the Brandon blacktop for the locals. Come on out and enjoy the fellowship of friends and neighbors.

A do-it-yourself Pinecone Birdfeeder activity will be held at the Vinton Public Library on Friday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. This FREE event is for K-5th Grade. The Library is located at 510 2nd Ave., in Vinton. 

It’s a Heatwave!

Gardening in Heat and Drought program will be presented by the Black Hawk County Master Gardeners on Wednesday, April 17, at 6 PM at Hawkins Memorial Library in La Porte City. Don’t miss this informative presentation with a lot of helpful tips and suggestions, and be prepared for the possibility of another a dry summer!In addition to this free educational program, the Master Gardeners will also have flower and vegetable seeds available to get you started for this growing season.

A Seasonal Challenges, Colors, Shapes & Sizes in the Garden program will be presented by the Black Hawk County Master Gardeners, on Wednesday, April 10, 6 PM at Hawkins Memorial Library, 308 Main Street, La Porte City. This is a great guide for planning your gardens for every season. The gardening class is free and registration is not required.
