Community Book Club discussion of 'The Frozen River' by Ariel Lawhon
Join us for our monthly Community Book Club for adults. This month we are discussing 'The Frozen River' by Ariel Lawhon, a historical fiction novel based upon the diary entries of Martha Ballard. We have a limited number of copies of this month's selection at the library available for checkout. We will be meeting Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 9:15 a. This enchanting Christmas tradition transforms the Festhalle Barn into a winter wonderland brimming with holiday cheer. Our Open Craft Night will be a night of crafting and gift wrapping. Materials will be provided. Bring your gifts to wrap! We will also be making button ornaments while supplies last. This event is for adults, children ages 12 and younger are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Join us on Thursday, December 5, at 6:00 p.m. at the library! Who's ready to read this winter?Read 8 books from our library's physical and digital collections during December and January, log your titles in Beanstack or on your own book log, and earn a new set of badges! Kirkwood Community College’s Iowa Equestrian Center will host the third annual Deck the Stalls event on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.The family-friendly experience will feature activities for people of all ages. Attendees will be able to enjoy horse and pony rides, farm animals, a mechanical bull, vendors, a shopping village and a hot cocoa bar.

The Festival of Trees in Belle Plaine will showcase the artistic talents of area businesses, organizations, and families through trees they decorate for this holiday event. Visitors to the festival can bring coins to vote on their favorite tree, with the three trees getting the most votes getting gift baskets. The top prize is valued at over $375, the second at over $275, and the third at over $175.
