Candidate Forum, May 18, 10:00 a.m.
Benton County Republicans have announced plans for a Candidate Forum for those running for office in the June 4th Primary. The event will be held at the Farmer's Mercantile Hall, located at 100 W. Main St. in Garrison. The event will be held on Saturday, May 18th beginning at 10:00 a.m. Come out and attend if you'd like to watch the event
2024 BENTON COUNTY AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RELAY FOR LIFE
Relay For Life is more than just a fundraising walk. It is a global movement that celebrates cancer survivors and caregivers, honors loved ones, and helps fund the future of cancer research and care. Money raised from Relay directly supports members of our community by funding breakthrough research, 24/7 support for people with cancer, access to lifesaving screenings, and much more.
AMVETS food trailer at Dollar Fresh May 17-19
The AMVET food trailer is firing up for another year! From May 17-19 starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Dollar Fresh there will be brats, burgers and hot dogs, bag of chips and a soda for a free will donation.
The Great 2024 Scavenger Hunt
The Vinton Guild of Fine Arts is celebrating 10 years this year (can you believe it?) The Guild will be doing a few activities to celebrate!The Guild will have a special display at various events around town this year and a special event later in the year, during the downtown Christmas open house in November. To celebrate their 10th anniversary the Guild will be challenging everyone to a Scavenger Hunt.

May is "Get Caught Reading" Month! Get Caught Reading is a nationwide campaign to promote the
fun of reading books for all ages. Because research indicates that early language experience actually
stimulates a child’s brain to grow and that reading to children gives them a huge advantage when
they start school, we hope to encourage people of all ages to enjoy books and magazines and to share
that pleasure with the young children in their lives.

A presentation entitled, "Forgotten Communities of
Benton County" will be shared with the community by Iowa’s leading ghost town researcher Dave Baker from, "The 29th State." Join us on
this fascinating journey through the past of Benton County. Come learn about
the places which have disappeared from our map during this fun and
interactive program.
Center Point Historical Society May Activities
May is a happening month, in Nature and at the Center Point Historical Society Depot Museum:Sunday, May 5. 2 p.m. - There will be a talk on “ Trees and Tree Planting” by Linn County Park Ranger, Shaun Reilly.Sunday, May 12. 2 p.m. – A presentation will be given concerning this year’s periodic cicada big buzz by Chuck Ungs of the Wickiup Hill Learning Center.
