Shellsburg American Legion Breakfast Saturday, December 4

The Shellsburg American Legion Saturday morning breakfast will take place this Saturday from 8 - 10 am. We ask people to social distant at the tables (families of course can sit together) and wear masks if you choose.Never forget that at every minute of every day, there are members of our Armed Forces in harm's way, and we need to pray for their safety and return home soonWe appreciate the past support for all the community does for the American Legion.

1963 Classmates Monthly Breakfast

On the last Tuesday of each month, whoever can, shows up for coffee/breakfast at Vinton Family Restaurant. At our November 30th coffee, we remembered our classmate, Nancy Erickson Stainbrook, who passed away since our last coffee. We also remembered our high-school music teacher Patricia Eash Hagen who also had just passed away.Members attending- Janet Anderson Williams, Sharon Boddicker Rhinehart, Janice McVey Sarchett, Anna Mae Johnson Tharp, Rsemary Flickinger Boisen, Ted Mann, Larry (Sue) Wiley, Rick Geater.

Vinton Guild of Fine Arts to Donate Proceeds from Silent Auction

The Winter Sled is made from a vintage Flexible Flyer II sled. The arrow is part of its original decorations when new.  The guild added the winter design to make it a nice addition to any porch, fireplace hearth, or anywhere you care to use it.  We'll even throw in the wreath to give it that little extra something for the Christmas season.

Dan & Elana Johnson Family Benefit November 26

The Dan & Elana Johnson Family are in need of a bit of a hand. The couple has operated the Belle Plaine Ambulance service but are now in need of the community's response to this call. Dan has been diagnosed with liver cancer and unfortunately, no treatment option is available.  A benefit has been organized to help the family.A freewill donation chili supper will be helped on Friday, November 26 from 4-8:00 p.

First Baptist Church to hold Annual Free Thanksgiving Dinner

A free homestyle Thanksgiving Dinner will be held at the First Baptist Church located at 601 1st Ave. Vinton. The meal includes all of the "fixin's" including a slice of pie. The meal will be held on Thanksgiving day from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Master Gardener Winter Series Returns December 8

 The Master Gardener Program with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will again host the Winter Webinar Series, beginning in December and lasting through March.Designed to expand gardening knowledge and allow gardeners to connect with experts from across the field, the sessions are free and open to the public, although registration is required.

VGH "Old Fashion Christmas" featured for Annual Tree walk

VGH to hold a raffle in place of traditional Christmas Tree Walk For the 2021 Christmas season, Virginia Gay Hospital has chosen to feature an "Old Fashion Christmas" theme raffle. Because of COVID, the traditional Tree Walk will be postponed until next year. Robin Martin said, "We are raffling an experience," she said.Kacena Farms has donated the opportunity to Choose and Cut Farm Fresh Christmas tree, a Christmas Eve Yule Log, Farm Fresh Wreath and a Personalized Christmas Tree Ornament.

Sunday, November 21, Christmas Open House in Downtown Vinton

On Sunday, November 21, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.Vinton will officially kick off the Christmas season with the annual Open House. Stores will be offering deals, samples, tastings and music.Following this Sunday, many of the stores will continue to be open on Sunday afternoons through Christmas.

Children can mail a letter to Santa in downtown Vinton

If your child would like to mail a letter to the North Pole, they are welcome to drop their letters off at the mailbox located downtown Vinton. The mailbox will be available following Santa's arrival during the Christmas Parade. Letters to Santa require no stamps, but be sure to include your return address so that Santa's elves know where to address any replies.
