The route is scouted, the Sponsors are stacking up, the supplies are ready, the menu is planned, the boats are being tarped, even Mother Nature is giving us her best this weekend!

Join the Cedar River R.A.T.S. this Saturday @ 8:40 AM for their 6th Annual Cedar River clean up. The group will ‘‘set sail’’ from the Mt. Auburn boat ramp @ 9:00 and travel down to the Vinton Bridge Ramp, with a homecooked lunch served along the way.

We are planning to be @ the bridge in Vinton around 3:00, but our day won’t end there! Once the trash is sorted, our treasures are compared and our boats are put away, we’ll be northward bound on Highway 150 to visit our biggest sponsor/supporter. The Izaak Walton League, is having their Annual Hog Roast at their facility this Saturday, August 3rd, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, and you can bet there will be a few pleasantly tired R.A.T.S. there!

The Mission Statement of the Izaak Walton League is:

To conserve, maintain, protect, and restore the soil, forest, water, and other natural resources of the United States and other lands; to promote means and opportunities for the education of the public with respect to such resources and their enjoyment and wholesome utilization.

And true to their statement, our local chapter of the IKES have sponsored and supported our clean up since it’s first days. They have encouraged us, invited us to share with them at their meetings, the things we have accomplished, and they have invited us to join them for meetings that tie into water conservation. The Izaak Walton League is truly a group that strives for conservation and education…and we couldn’t be more proud to be a project that they endorse. It is a “given” that we, in turn will support them with our presence, and more importantly our APPETITES!

See you on the water, and then we’ll see you @ the Izaak Walton Lodge!
