The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II and Central Region met at 9:30 am, May 25th at the secretaries office at fairgrounds, due to rain the painting at the 218 park was canceled.
President Fran Stueck called the meeting to order at 10:30. Seven member recited the Pledge of Allegiance and Conservation Pledge. Members answered roll call by the question “what new miniature flower or plant are you planting this year?
Secretary Joyce Bratten read the minutes from the April meeting. There were no corrections so will stand as read.
Treasurer Sharen Stueck gave the Treasurer's Report.
There were no questions on Treasurer's Report so it will be filed for audit.
Correspondences:
Shellsburg Area Community Group invited the Club to Grand Opening of the Shellsburg Prairie Forest Trail on Saturday the 25th any time between 9:00am to 11:30am. Naturalists will be present to give guided walks of the 17 acre restored prairie. Information regarding native plants and history of the prairie and trail project.

Five members attended District II meeting in Decorah, May 13th. Ted Stueck honorary life membor drove Joyce Bratten, Luanna Hawkins, Susie Hansen and Fran Stiueck to Decorah. They had a informative meeting guest speaker on peonies from Minnesota. The club received blue ribbon year book, bllue ribbon club, advanced rating. Fran prepared the book of evidence for the 2015 club year.
Fran presented certificate to scholarship winner Joel Barnes on May 11,2016 at the seniro awards night.
Planting a tree for Arbor Day in a park?
Fran, Ted, Joyce, Sharen, Anne planted some annuals at Johns little deer park and at Blue Star Marker.
The Plant and Bake sale was a big success. The tables were cleared off early in an hour. Plants left were given away to members or taken to District II ways and means.
Fran and Ted attended the NGC Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan May 2-7. Speaker and workshops were very informative.
NEW BUSINESS:
Fran passed a sheet around for members to sign up to take flowers to businesses around town for Garden Week. She will get with Cottage Garden president and Mayor John Watson to sign the Garden Week proclamation for June 5—7.
Sharen Stueck and Joyce Bratten signed up to go to state Mtg June 24th in Fort Dodge Ted and Fran Stueck are also going on Friday.
The June Garden Club meeting will be in fairgrounds secretaries office. Members will bring flowers to make designs.
Paint day is set on June 8 at 9:30 at 218 park.
