Events and Activities : It's a Dog-A-Fair May 8

On Saturday May 8, at the Benton County Fair Grounds from 10a.m.-2:00p.m. an event hosted by the Friends of the Shelter will be held.

This is a community event that brings different rescues or shelters together to share ideas, raise awareness of issues facing homeless pets, provide fundraising apportunities and a chance to show off your dog!

The Pawticipating groups include: Vinton/Benton Co. Animal Shelter, Tama Co. Humane Society, Last Hope Rescue, Inc, Little Paws Dog Rescue, Inc, Iowa Humande Alliance, Mary LaHay/IA Voters for Companion Animals, Cedar Bend Humane Society, Disaster Dogs of IOwa, Janie Fairchild/Bark Busters.

The North Benton Ambulance Crew Foundation will be the food vendor and raising funds for the LUCAS Device and also a stair chair.

The event will include goodie bags, prizes, garage sale items with 100 % of the proceeds going toward a puppy nursey for the Vinton/Benton Co. Animal Shelter, adoptable dogs, low cost microchipping, bake sale, candles, dog bandanna's, pork sandwiches, hot dogs chips, drinks, dog treats, pet photography, search and rescue demonstration and more!

Dog Rules to attend this event are as follows:

-All dogs must have proof of current vaccinations, including rabies and distemper/parvo, rabies tag must be attached to the collar per City of Vinton Ordinance

-No Pit Bill or Pit Bill mixes per Benton County Law

-All dogs must be leashed and under control at all times

-Do NOT bring females in heat

-No puppies under 6 months of age please

-You'll be expected to pick up after your pet

-Please leave aggressive or unpredicable dogs at home so as to prevent injury to yourself or others

-Please don't bring cats. While we love them - some dogs don't - so let's keep everyone safe

-Most of all let's have fun so we can do this again!

For the event, all the humans are free, but dog's will cost a $2 fee!
