The Benton County Historic Preservation Commission will host a Flea Market on Saturday, September 28 at the Celebration Park from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It will feature every facet of a traditional flea market including antiques and uniques, direct sales and marketing and local community groups and foundations. As an added bonus, Antonio's, a local food truck, will also be at the park, serving lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. "There will be something there for everyone," comments Philip Borleske, a Benton County Preservation Commissioner.
The commission decided to host a flea market as their community outreach project for this year. They chose Celebration Park because of its closeness to the iconic Iowa Canning Factory completed in 1926 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. One of the duties of the Commission is to bring public awareness to National Register Properties and to convey the importance of historic preservation.
"We have a few vendors signed up as of now but need more" says Allison Hicks, Preservation Commissioner. Spaces are $10 for a 10 X 10 ft area but multiple spaces can be purchased if needed.
Email Historicpres@bentoncountyia.gov or call (319) 436-0446 to reserve a space.
