The diagonal back wall of City Hall will be receiving a flowery paint job when community volunteers are invited in to paint it on Saturday evening, September 28, 2024. The mural, designed by Dandeena Schadle, will feature a variety of flowers and related nature items. A children's "Under the Sea" mural, designed by Renae Patterson, will also be completed on a panel to be installed on the back wall of Pourville Art Studio & Gallery. All volunteers are welcome - no experience or supplies are necessary.
The event, called "Back Alley Evening of the Arts", is to take place 4:00-8:00 pm, in the alleyways behind City Hall, in the 100 block between 3rd and 4th Streets in Vinton. Beyond painting, activities will include music by the Boogie Woogers and by Phil Thomas and Darryl Hokanson, as well as food provided by The Niche Wine Bar, Beast & Bird, Kitchen Casserole, and Shelly's Sweets. Businesses will set up "sidewalk" sales in the alley, including fine artworks by local artists.
The event is sponsored by Pourville Art Studio & Gallery and the Vinton Guild of Fine Arts, in partnership with The Niche, Cameron's, LaGrange Pharmacy, Essential Health Massage, and Vinton Unlimited. Contributors include Ideal Industries, Farm Bureau's Dan Peoples, Koop's, International Motor Contest Assn (IMCA), Karr's Septic, Ervin's Motor Co., T-J Gas, Custom Millwork, and Benton County Historical Society.
Dandeena Schadle from Pourville has previously led community mural paintings, including a children's mural on the back of Pourville, the butterfly on the Sherman Building, and the megaphone on the Vinton Newspapers building. The Vinton Guild of Fine Arts (VGFA) is a local nonprofit that has been supporting artists and promoting public art in the Vinton community since 2014. In addition to partnering with Pourville on the butterfly and megaphone projects, the VGFA has sponsored other murals around town, including the park mural on the IVinton building, children's murals at Palace Theater and Kiwanis Park, and two murals in the Vinton Public Library. A "Zoo Day at the Pool" mural was completed in June and is awaiting installation at the Vinton Pool.
