The Center Point Friends of the Library and Historical Society partner every fall for a Community Harvest Potluck and Program.

This year's program is a re-enactment of Des Moines Register political cartoonist and conservation leader Jay Norwood "Ding" Darling (1876-1962.) Tom Milligan of TKM Theatrical Productions in Amana plays the Pulitzer-Prize winning cartoonist.

Darling drew for the Register for about 50 years and, although he was a firm conservative, also worked for that arch liberal Franklin Delano Roosevelt. FDR asked him to be the first head of what became the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Ding hatched the Duck Stamp idea and drew the first one for the program that by today has funded thousands of acres of wildlife habitat restoration.

The free program will be held on Thursday, October 3 andstarts at 7:00 p.m. in the Center Point Library basement community room. The Harvest Potluck starts at 6:00 p.m. with drink and table service provided. Guests are asked to bring food to share.
