Central Lutheran School (Newhall) will offer several camp opportunities this summer for children of all ages. Registration is open to the public. Mike and Dawn Embretson will head up a Volleyball Camp June 13 and 14 for students entering 3-8th grades. Fundamentals of the game will be covered, including footwork, passing, hitting, blocking, serving and rotating through court positions. Dawn has coached volleyball for 15 years and has played USVA and Recreational Volleyball for 22 years. Mike has 18 years of volleyball coaching experience at the high school and collegiate levels. He is currently the Volleyball Assistant at Kirkwood Community College and has also played USVA and Recreational volleyball for more than 22 years. Cost $15 per student. Coaches Kurt Slouha and Brian Van Weelden will be conducting a girls basketball camp July 16-20 from 5:30-8:00 pm. This camp is open to all girls entering grades 4-8. Cost $20 and includes a T-shirt. Coaches will cover fundamental offensive and defensive skills and offer an opportunity to showcase players' skills in friendly competition. In August, the focus is on Vehicle Engineering with Legos. This isn't just playing with snap together blocks. The All About Learning camp will teach students engineering concepts, such as basic engineering principals with friction, forces, motion and aerodynamics; problem solving; and communication skills. Students will build and modify every day vehicles, concept cars, construction machines and more using the AAL Lego kits. Children entering grades 1-3 are eligible for the junior camp Aug 6-10 from 9-Noon. Older students entering grades 4-8 will attend the afternoon session from 1-4. Cost: $110 per student.
