The 4th Annual Flaughless 5K, a memorial event for U.S. Army soldier and Vinton native Dan Flaugh, is five days away and on track for meeting – and exceeding –  the fundraising goal of at least $10,000 for Wounded Warrior Project (WWP). This year’s event will also have Jeremiah Pauley, a representative from WWP, speak at the event.

REGISTRATION INFO
The race will be at Riverside Park in Vinton on Saturday, October 10. Online registration will close on Friday night and participants may register in person the morning of the race until 9:30 a.m. Runners will have disposable chip timing this year. Service dogs, leashed dogs, and children in strollers are all welcome to participate.

EARLY PACKET PICKUP
Race packets will be available for those who registered prior to October 4 at the round shelter at Riverside Park on Friday, October 9 from 6-7 p.m.

RACE DAY SCHEDULE
7 a.m. Volunteers who are assisting with setup meet at Riverside Park.

8 a.m. Registration and check-in opens, Flaughless merchandise for sale from Fairfield Line, refreshments provided by Fareway available in the round shelter, silent auction bidding continues in the round shelter for the quilted items handmade by Charlotte Heaverlo, Jim and Beth Mayhew host a Young Living Essential Oils table,  music provided by Tyler Henkle from Tyler Sean Entertainment.

9 a.m. Volunteers who are course monitors meet at Riverside Park for assigned location.

9:30 a.m. Opening Ceremony begins with an introduction from Georgia Sysouchanh and WWP speaker Jeremiah Pauley.

9:45 a.m. American Legion Honor Guard play taps, audience observes a moment of silence, and vocalist Makayla Morrison sings the national anthem.

10 a.m. Race begins, live music from Zachary Freedom.

11 a.m. Award ceremony, first, second and third place medals in all age categories for male and female, overall male and female champions awarded trophies. Silent auction ends and winners announced. Total amount of money raised announced.

11:30 a.m. – Noon Volunteers clean up.

Noon Wounded Warriors Softball Tournament (organized by Josh Adrian and Martin Halstead) continues at Lion’s Field, next to Riverside Park in Vinton.

PARKING
Parking around Riverside Park is limited and we recommend finding a spot along the residential side streets.
