Vinton-Shellsburg students begancelebrating Homecoming on Sunday, with members of the senior class gathering to paint messages on the school parking lot for the tradition called "white-washing." The Junior Powder Puff team was practicing for Thursday's game as the seniors painted.
The main event of the week is Friday, when the Vikings host Independence for the football game, and the newest members of the Viking-Vikette Hall of Fame receive recognition.
The students will learn who the Top 10 King and Queen candidates are during a Monday afternoon assembly. After school on Monday, they will paint business windows. Also on Monday, the boys' "Powder Puff volleyball" will take place from 7-8:30 at the middle school gym.

The Homecoming Parade will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Participants will line up between Farmers Bank and Fareway and proceed to 4th Street to 2nd Avenue and end up in the high school parking lot. The pep rally at the football field will begin around 7 p.m. The Powder Puff football game and coronation of King and Queen take place at that time.
There will also be pep rallies at Tilford and Shellsburg Elementary for students there on Friday.
