The Red Cedar Chapter of the Izaak Walton League is inviting the public to a presentation on human trafficking on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the chapter’s main building north of Vinton.
Kenesha Davis of Friends of the Family will speak about how the issue impacts Iowa.
“It’s pretty important,” says Craig Hoepner, a long-time Ikes member and current officer. “Iowa is the No. 1 state in child trafficking, because of I-35 and I-80.
Davis says she will be sharing information about human trafficking, both for sex and child labor.
“We will talk about the definition of labor and sex trafficking, and share some examples of Iowa cases, and talk about how Friends of the Family can help,” says Davis.
“This is bigger than just us,” Hoepner says, as he invited the public to join the Izzak Walton members. The event will take the place of the regular monthly meeting of the chapter.
The event begins at 7 p.m. with light refreshments.
September dedication of Lulu Berry Garden
The chapter plans to dedicate its Lulu Berry Garden in September. Hoepner says the chapter is finalizing dates and speakers for that event.
