The Benton County Historic Preservation Commission presents Rachelle Chase as part of their Iowa Authors Series. 

On Sunday, July 7th, beginning at 1:00 p.m. the presentation will be held at the Belle Plaine Area Museum which is located at 901 12th St. in Belle Plaine and at 4:30 p.m. at the Benton County Service Center Conference Room located at 811 D Ave. in Vinton. 

Iowa author Rachelle Chase will be visiting Benton County and sharing a presentation on her newly released book; Creating the Black Utopia of Buxton, Iowa. Come learn how the coal mining town of Buxton, located in Monroe County came to be. Hear audio clips and see rare photos of this exceptionally rare, early 1900's diverse Iowa town, where 5,000 African American and Caucasians once lived, worked and attended school all together. Also learn more about how the "Pumpkin Vine" played a major role in connecting this coal mining town to our southern county line. 

This is a free event and open to the pubic.

-Rachelle Chase is a nonfiction and romance author, business consultant, speaker and nodel who has appeard on national television including CBS, as well as "The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet" and on national radio shows including the "Hip-Hop Connection," and the "Jordan Rich Show." She has also appeared on WHOTV Channel 13 News, KBIZ, and Iowa Public Radio.

"Creating the Black Utopia of Buxton, Iowa," was released January 28, 2019. This book is a continuation of the history she introduced in Lost Buxton. Rachelle continues to research Buxton and has given over 50 presentations on the topic.
