The Center Point Historical Society’s fall potluck supper will be Tues. Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Christian Church basement in Center Point.  The community is invited to join the Society for this annual free supper, with program following at 7 p.m.  Table service and beverage are supplied at the church.

This year’s program is in keeping with the Society’s 2011 theme “Passing Through Time,” about death, mourning and funeral customs.  Jane Thoresen, of the Oak Hill Cemetery Association in Cedar Rapids, will give a Power Point presentation about the final resting place of the movers and shakers of early Cedar Rapids.  Jane and the Oak Hill Cemetery Facebook  page were recently featured on KCRG News.

There is also an Oak Hill Cemetery time line poster, funded through a Linn County Historic Preservation Commission grant, that gives a sort of short course on Cedar Rapids history.  A copy is on display at the Historical Society Depot Museum, which is open every Sunday, 1 to 4, through Oct. 16.

Final plans for the potluck were made at the Society’s Sept. 27 regular meeting.  The group also decided to have railroading for its 2012 special theme.

Members previewed the program for the Oct. 16 Center Point Cemetery Walk.  The guided tours will begin at 4:30.  Hands-on grave rubbing, led by Center Point artist Dusty Sylver, will begin at 4 p.m. and will also be available after the tours.

Costumed portrayers will give a glimpse into the life and times of nine Center Point citizens from the 19th and 20th Centuries.  As an added twist, Center Point’s Revolutionary War veteran will be played by an Englishman.

Cemetery Walk admission will be $5.  Rain date is Oct. 23.
