The Friends Christmas Bookfair at Barnes & Noble in Cedar Rapids was such fun and so successful that the group signed up to do another. The spring Bookfair will be Saturday, March 31, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Barnes & Noble. Plan to do some of your Easter Bunny buying that day and help Friends raise money for the Center Point Library.
At their February 2, 2012, meeting the Friends of the Center Point Library also discussed plans for the third annual Spring Gala to benefit the Library. The Gala will be April 15 in honor of Poetry Month.
This year instead of a poetry contest there will be collaborative poetry writing across generations. Adults and young people will team up to learn about and write poems together at two free poetry workshops led by local poet Paul Wood. On March 26 aspiring poets of all ages will learn about limericks and haiku and on March 27 about monorhyme and acrostics.
The cross generational teams will be invited to read their work at the Gala, which will also include music and special refreshments.
In other business, Friends extended a friendly hand to the Garrison Library which suffered badly from the July 11 storm. Garrison librarians have been invited to come choose books they can use from the many donated to Friends since the Book Sale last summer.
