Events and Activities : Party in the Park begins in two days; Doowops, Skippers to perform

Party in the Park: The Iowa Skippers will perform Thursday in Vinton.

The Doowops will sing 50s and 60s favorites on Friday during Party in the Park.

In just two more days, the 2012 Vinton Party in the Park begins. 

The event starts with the Community Appreciation Dinner at Farmers Savings Bank, which starts at 5. The Kiddie Parade begins at 6:30, as the children ride to the courthouse lawn, where more events, performances and activities await. The Iowa Skippers, a jump rope team from Cedar Rapids schools, will perform Thursday near the courthouse.

The Farmers Market will move from its normal spot at the Depot to First Avenue, west of the courthouse, on this Thursday.

Friday and Saturday eveningevents at Riverside Park include concerts and fireworks. The Doowops, an eastern Iowa group that sings 50s and 60s music, will perform on Friday.

Saturday afternoon includes more entertainment and the Riverside's Got Talent Show. Vocal Trash will perform Saturday evening before the fireworks.

Parade to celebrate Community of Heroes

Unlike other years, this year, there will be no grand marshals for the parade. The theme is Community of Heroes; it is designed to honor all who have helped Vinton in many ways, including with the recovery efforts of the storm of 2011 or the flood of 2008.,
